Demonstrators marched in front of the federal courthouse in Detroit Tuesday, they were demanding justice for an indigenous woman who was murdered.
About two hundred people chanted and held signs asking for a murder indictment of the woman accused of killing Nangonhs-Ba Massey, a citizen of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians.
Carrie Heron is a friend of Massey and her family. She explains the situation and why the protest is taking place in Detroit.
“Kaden Gilbert, she is, well, she is white. And because she killed a Native American on the reservation, she's supposed to serve federal time. It's a federal crime.”

A recent report shows homicide was the third leading cause of death for indigenous women aged 10 to 24. Massey was just 21 when she died.
