Gretchen Whitmer wants more info on AG appeal decision

Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she has concerns about the Attorney General’s decision to appeal a recent court ruling in a lawsuit against the state’s unemployment insurance agency.

A computer glitch at the agency wrongfully accused more than 40 thousand people of fraud.

State officials admit the mistake, but continue to file appeals.

Governor Whitmer says she’s asked for a briefing on the U-I-A case.

“I have some concerns about where it is at... until I have that briefing I don’t know if I can say a lot more.”

During her campaign for governor, Whitmer said the scandal was an "abuse of power" and "cruel."

An Attorney General’s office spokeswoman says the appeal is needed to get legal guidance from the state’s highest court.
