If you’re heading up to your cabin or beach house anytime soon, you might be asked to self-quarantine.

The Grand Traverse County Health Department wants anyone coming to the county from areas with high numbers of COVID-19 cases to stay inside for 14 days.

Wendy Hirschenberger is the health officer for the county. She said it’s not an excessive thing to ask...because it’s about saving lives.

"You should not be going out getting groceries. You should not be going to the store. You should have either a service bring them to you, or even a neighbor could leave them on your doorstep. There’s lots of options.”

Munson Healthcare said an influx of people who may be carriers of the disease could overwhelm hospitals in the region. The health department said the 14-day self-quarantine should be followed regardless of whether or not a person has symptoms or known exposure to the virus.
