A resolution supporting Enbridge’s Line 5 tunnel passed this morning (Wednesday) in Traverse City.

Grand Traverse County Commissioners voted in favor of the energy company’s proposed tunnel. Four of the seven commissioners voted in favor of the resolution. It supports a plan to put the Line 5 oil pipelines in a tunnel under bedrock. But many fear an oil spill if the pipeline is damaged by currents or an anchor.

Two people spoke in favor of the resolution during public comment. And 55 people spoke against it Lynne VanNess opposes a new tunnel and Line 5.

“We’re trying to prevent the board of commissioners from voting for a tunnel.” [:3]

The commissioners are going ask other Michigan counties to pass a similar resolution.
