Governor Whitmer Speaks about COVID-19 as infections continues to rise in Michigan

https://www.michigan.gov/

Speaking at a news conference Wednesday afternoon, Governor Gretchen Whitmer seemed to place some blame for the increase on Republicans in the legislature that worked to strip her of executive authority.

The number of Coronavirus cases was already trending upward before the state Supreme Court ruling three weeks ago.

“The Michigan Supreme Court by a narrow party line majority struck down the statute under which I had issued Executive orders to save lives and to protect Michigan families," Governor Whitmer said. "Our frontline workers and small businesses. Since that time, we have seen a steady rise of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.”
Despite the decision, the state health department has used its authority to mandate masks across the state.
