Leaders in clean energy from around Michigan will be meeting to talk about clean energy development May 21-23 for the third annual Michigan Clean Energy Conference in Traverse City.
The conference is hosted by the Groundworks Center for Resilient Communities, a non-profit in Traverse City, whose goal is to find local solutions for food, mobility, health, business, and clean energy.
Dan Worth, the clean energy program director at the Groundwork, says the goal of the Michigan Clean Energy Conference is to bring people together to make connections and to plan for clean energy projects in Michigan.
This is the third year of the conference, Worth said “this year is really more about action. Can we come out of this weekend not just with good networks and connections but with actual real world projects that are gonna get steel in the ground.”
The conference will include a number of speakers: Liesl Clark, the Michigan Director of Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, Hank Bair, Vice President of Facilities at U of M, the keynote speaker Patti Poppe, CEO of Consumers Energy, and many more.
Worth said this isn’t just a corporate conference, rather it is a “suits meet boots” type event, bringing together not just businesses but also communities.
Worth said Traverse City was the perfect place for this conference, “Our thought is, you know, Traverse City is all about Pure Michigan and keeping it clean, and so what better example than to take our little corner of North-West Michigan and bring folks together in an environment that’s not so corporate and is not so serious and have folks come North to spend 3 days imagining what clean energy can look like.”
