COVID-19 orders remain in place in Ingham County despite Michigan Supreme Court ruling

Ingham County’s Health Officer wants to make sure people know that there are still orders in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

When the Michigan Supreme Court struck down gubernatorial orders regulating state coronavirus safety measures, the orders were quickly replaced by new, similar mandates from the state department of public health.

Now, Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail says the challenge is to communicate that to people.

She says that along with spreading the word that some orders are still in place, there’s a struggle over enforcement of those rules.

“Even at the state level, state agencies are kind of a little bit on pause with what the state is directing them to do with regards to enforcement,” said Vail.

Prior to the Supreme Court ruling, Vail says the county had good adherence to the orders, with the exception of a recent spike of cases related to large gatherings at East Lansing fraternities, sororities and large rental units.
