CMU moves summer classes online, cancels events through end of June

Central Michigan University announced new cancellations and postponments Monday in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

In a release to the campus community, president Bob Davies says all Summer I classes, which run May 18-June 25, will be online only. The school will decide at a later date how to handle the Summer II session, which runs June 29-August 6 .

Additionally, CMU is cancelling or postponing all in-person events through June 25, including music, sports and other summer camps. No new in-person events will be scheduled on campus through June 25.

Special Olympics Michigan has postponed its State Summer Games which are held on the campus of CMU. The games were originally scheduled for May 28-31.  Special Olympics is working on rescheduling and modifying the games with a tentative placeholder for the week of July 20.

In the release to the CMU students, faculty and staff, president Davies says university leaders are consulting daily to manage the university’s response to COVID-19. He says they are looking ahead to late summer and fall and will make additional decisions as they learn more about the spread of the virus. "This continues to be a rapidly evolving situation, and CMU will continue to make decisions based on guidance from state leaders and public health officials. In all our planning, our top priorities remain student success and our educational mission".
