After over three decades as the head coach of the Central Michigan University gymnastics team Jerry Reighard was fired Thursday.
Reighard was given two weeks to respond to an 121-page investigative report by CMU Faculty Personnel Services.
That report cited “egregious misconduct” by Reighard that created a hostile atmosphere contradictory to CMU’s standards.
The most recent incident in February involved Reighard trying to influence a student to lie about concussion symptoms.
Jerry Reighard was the head coach of CMU’s gymnastics program since 1984, leading the university to sixteen first-place Mid-American Conference titles, the most in league history.
Officials with the CMU athletics department say they will begin a national search for a new coach.
