Central Stage: March 14, 2019

This episode of Central Stage features selections from a concert presented November 20, 2018 in Staples Family Concert Hall by Dr. Bruce Bonnell, professor of horn at Central Michigan University, and his colleagues. The program features Rhapsodie for Horn by Jean-Michel Damase, Quintet in D minor by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Sonata No. 3 by Alec Wilder. Central Stage host Dr. Sue Gamble talks with Dr. Bonnell, who provides interesting “backstories” about the music.

 

A chamber music specialist, Dr. Bruce Bonnell has enjoyed a successful career as an orchestral performer, soloist, clinician and pedagogue on the horn and natural horn throughout North America and Southeast Asia. Dr. Bonnell has been professor of horn at Central Michigan University since 2000.

Sue Gamble, Professor Emerita of music education, taught at Central Michigan University from 1978 to 2016. She also served as chair of the department of music, 1983-1990. She previously taught general music and choral music in grades 7-12 in central Pennsylvania.
