Hang on to your controller..Central Michigan University is moving forward with establishing an E-Sports program.

Esports is a form of competitive video gaming that’s surging in popularity. Experts say in the next couple years, nearly three-hundred million viewers will watch esports regularly.

Damon Brown helped organize CMU’s new program. He said it will bring an organization to dozens of students on campus who are professional gamers.

“One of the things that we’re trying to do is not only bring them into the fold, but also begin to build a culture and a program here on campus that will allow our students to compete against other schools not only across the state, but also across the region and hopefully across the country.”

Brown said in spring, the program will apply for membership to the National Association of Collegiate Esports. It serves more than 100 colleges and universities nationwide. He said a temporary facility for the program will open next month with a goal to front a team in the fall.
