Federal health officials said Monday they won't be sending more COVID-19 vaccines to Michigan.
At a White House press briefing, the head of the C.D.C. said the federal government would not send Michigan more shots to try vaccinate its way out of a third covid surge. Dr. Rochelle Walensky said more vaccines aren't the solution to bring down the state's spike in COVID cases.
"The answer to that is to really close things down, to go back to our basics, to go back to where we were last spring, last summer, and to to shut things down to flatten the curve, to decrease contact with one another."
Governor Whitmer is urging Michigan residents to avoid indoor dining, and called for high schools to pause in-person classes and sports for two weeks. But she stopped short of requiring those additional restrictions.
