Benson Suppression to changing election voting

Dominion Voting Systems

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is continuing her campaign against a Republican effort to overhaul voting in the state.State G.O.P. legislators have introduced 39 bills to change election procedure. Some would limit ballot drop box availability, others would introduce new photo I.D. requirements for voting in-person and by absentee ballot. Benson says the laws would disenfranchise otherwise valid votes.

“We have a state legislature and a state senate that’s going to be likely over the next series of weeks debating these bills in hearings. This is the moment where they need to hear from the people in this state, from the leaders of the communities in which they represent about how bad an pernicious the policies for the people that they serve.”

Benson is joined by Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan in opposing the bills. The Michigan Republican Party says the reform package will make voting easier and harder to cheat, despite imposing new barriers to the polls and rolling back access. There was no evidence of voter fraud in the November general election.
