Detroit 1967

It was 50 years ago this weekend when an after-hours bar bust ignited five awful days in Detroit. Forty three people were killed – over 1,000 injured and the property damage was into the millions.  For most, the Motor City has never fully recovered.

Canadian Gordon Lightfoot captured it musically, the MC5 fueled the anger from John Lee Hooker's "Motor City is Burning" and Motown artists began taking on a conscience message in The Sound of Young America. Great Detroit jazz artists are part of the soundtrack of the times too as we mark the place in time.
