Canadian border to remain closed for another month

The U-S and Canada have agreed to close the border between the two nations to all non-essential traffic…for another month.

cCanadian officials say the move will help protect their citizens from coronavirus infections concentrated in U-S border states.

Officials first closed the border to non-essential travel in March…and extended the ban in April.

But Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada remains vulnerable to infections carried by international travelers – especially those from U-S states along the border that have had significant outbreaks of COVID-19…like New York…Washington and Michigan.

Now the border will remain sealed until at least June 21st.

The closure exempts commercial traffic and essential workers like nurses.

In Detroit…typically one of the busiest trade routes between the two nations…Canadian health care professionals are crossing daily to work in the city's hospitals and across Michigan.
