Oakland University hosting conference on “political civility”

Oakland University is hosting a conference on civility this week.

The conference will bring together people from different sides of the political and social spectrum to engage views and listen to one another.

Nolan Finley is the conservative editorial page editor of the Detroit News. He says it's important to talk with others who don’t share your views. Finley says conference organizers are trying to bridge some of our societal divides.

“The sort of hatred we’re seeing leads to dehumanization.  And dehumanization leads to all sorts of really bad things.  It’s part warning shot if you will.” said Finley.

After Tuesday's conference, Oakland University hosts the second and final gubernatorial debate that night between incumbent Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Republican challenger Tudor Dixon.
