200 million vehicles have now crossed the Mackinac Bridge

The Mackinac Bridge Authority has announced the 200 millionth vehicle crossed the bridge this week.

The Dalman family of Tawas City was heading north to Pictured Rocks for the family’s first big hike when they discovered they were the lucky 200 millionth vehicle.

Soon after the family paid the four-dollar toll, members of the Bridge Authority presented them with a framed picture of the Mackinac Bridge, a gift basket and had them pose for a photo.

In a written statement, Mackinac Bridge Authority Chairman Patrick Gleason said “It’s our customers who pay the tolls that support the ongoing operation and maintenance of the Mackinac Bridge, so it’s only right that we recognize this milestone.”

The Mackinac Bridge opened for traffic in November of 1957.
