Ingham County Health Officer Linda Vail says the omicron surge of COVID-19 has QUOTE “just about ended” in the county.

Vail says the seven-day rolling average of cases in Ingham County peaked at about 700 in January. That number has dropped to 200.

Vail says that while the case numbers are dropping, there are still reasons to be cautious about COVID. The virus is unpredictable, including the possibility of an omicron sub-variant. There also have been cases in animals like cats and whitetail deer.

Meanwhile, Vail says health officials are discussing the possibility of dropping mask mandates with the state. She says that could happen by the end of the month.
