K-12 Schooling Budget Preview

The public will likely get its first look at a proposed state budget this week.

The governor and leadership in the legislature have been keeping details on a bipartisan spending plan tight since announcing the deal last week.

Alex Rossman is with the Michigan League for Public Policy. He says he understands the secrecy.

“Honestly I think it’s a little bit of the nature of the beast and incorporating some of the lessons learned over the rough budget cycles we’ve had in the past that the bigger the table of negotiators, the more difficult it is to find consensus.”

The budget will cover state departments and agencies, and public universities.

Lawmakers approved spending for K-12 schools earlier this year.
