Detroit officials unveil a new program on Monday to offer COVID-19 vaccine booster shots to certain residents in the city.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and the city’s public health officer will outline plans to give a third shot of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine to people with compromised immune systems.
Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended the booster shots, but only for a relatively small group of people who may have had a weaker response to the vaccine.
That includes those who have had organ transplants or are taking medication that suppresses the immune system, such as some cancer patients, as well as a select few other medical conditions.
City officials say they will also discuss recent guidelines for wearing masks indoors or in areas where the virus can easily spread.
