Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin is asking for a private briefing from the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the agency’s handling of the Larry Nassar sexual assault case.

The Department of Justice released a report this month (July) which says agents failed to follow up on allegations with necessary urgency. It also says investigators made false statements that covered up their missteps.

Slotkin’s district includes Michigan State University where Nassar practiced medicine. She says agents need to be held accountable if they are found to have broken the law. That could include criminal charges.

“If they lied to law enforcement, if they hid things from other law enforcement officers, even as law enforcement officers themselves, they should have to face consequences the same way a normal civilian would face consequences.”

Nassar will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to sexual assault and child pornography charges in 2017.
