Lugnuts Stadium reopens following Governor's lifting of outdoor COVID-19 restrictions

Following Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s announcement lifting outdoor restrictions, the Lansing Lugnuts are preparing to host up to 11,000 fans for the start of their six-game series on June 1st.

After a cancelled 2020 season and a start to this season limiting fan attendance to 20 percent, Jackson Field is transitioning to a full capacity stadium on June 1st.

Tyler Parsons is the general manager of the Lugnuts. He says the team is excited to return to a sense of normalcy after a tumultuous year.

“We're incredibly blessed to be able to have fans here in the stadium here right now," Parsons said. "We're even more excited to have full capacity here and be able to continue to grow our business back to the normal level that was at back in 2019".

Parsons says the Lugnuts will be able to have up to 11,000 fans in attendance for the start of their six-game series against the South Bend Cubs. He says masks will only be required indoors for those who aren’t fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

“COVID still exists, it's still around, it's not been eradicated," Parsons said. "Even though you know, the mask policy has been lifted, we’re going to 100% capacity, we're still gonna follow the CDC and state order on mask wearing indoors for non-vaccinated people".

Parsons says they are working with the Ingham County Health Department to determine how to prevent coronavirus exposure among fans.
