High school athletics resume in Michigan Monday. Last week, the state health department removed a ban on indoor contact sports, citing a drop in Covid-19 cases.

Chief Medical Executive Doctor Joneigh Khaldun says it’s important for athletes and coaches to wear masks and follow guidelines.

“As we continue to reengage, it is critical that everyone adheres to these important public health measures so we can prevent outbreaks, not just on our sports teams, but in our schools as well.”

State health officials are concerned about the spread of a more-contagious Coronavirus variant in the state, but so far, its spread has been limited to a couple dozen cases in Wayne and Washtenaw Counties.
