Michigan High School Athletics Association pausing High School Sports

The recent pandemic order from the state health department suspended all high school sports while athletics officials still hope athletes will be able to finish their seasons.

The pandemic order suspending fall sports comes as high school football, girls swimming and diving and girls volleyball teams across Michigan were competing in state tournaments.

The Michigan High School Athletics Association isn't canceling those tournaments. Just pausing them.

The hope is play can resume after the current pandemic order expires on December 9th.

But MHSAA Executive Director Mark Uyl says

"The biggest assumption is that we're able to return to activity here after the three week pause ends."

He says if the order is extended, so will the suspension of high school sports.

He says the MHSAA will release an updated plan for fall tournament schedules on Wednesday.
