Long-time Michigan state lawmaker Morris Hood III has died.

Hood had been hospitalized for several weeks battling the COVID-19 virus.

Mo Hood was known as a peacemaker in an increasingly partisan political landscape.

The Detroit Democrat’s father represented the city in the state legislature…and Hood the Third followed suit…serving a combined 14 years as a member of first the Michigan House…and then the Senate. He left the legislature in 2018.

Remembrances have poured in from officials across the state.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer calls Hood a thoughtful advisor with a quick wit. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan says Hood was a fighter for justice and equality.

In recent years Hood served in the Wayne County Executive’s administration. County Exec Warren Evans says Hood dedicated his life to improving the lives of others.

Morris Hood was 54.
