August is the first ever National Shooting Sports Month

Michigan DNR

Michigan will be one of the state’s recognizing the launch of National Shooting Sports Month.

National Shooting Sports Month highlights shooting activities and ranges around Michigan and around the country.

Dennis Fox is the Recruitment and Retention Manager for the Department of Natural Resources.

“We’re going to showcase some of the activities we have such as the National WIld Turkey Federation and Pheasants Forever providing bb gun shooting in some of our state parks.”

Fox says more than one million Michigan residents participate in target shooting. Fox says there are also opportunities for people to learn.

“If someone is interested, they have a lot of resources that are available for people who want to learn how to shoot.”

Officials say they hope to get more hunters and other residents to the various shooting ranges the state offers.
