Bay County assisted living facility responding to COVID outbreak that has lead to 8 deaths

Sheffield Place

A Bay County assisted living facility is reporting an outbreak of COVID-19.

Sheffield Bay Assisted Living and Memory Care has reported 30 cases in the last three weeks, eight of which were fatal, according to health department officials.

Joel Strasz is the Bay County Public Health Officer. He said families should consider speaking with the facility about removing their family member during the outbreak.

“I would encourage people that have a family member there to have an open dialogue with the administration and figure out what’s best for them and their family.”

Strasz said the outbreak has been among both staff and residents. He said it is not known how COVID-19 got into the facility.

“The investigation is still going on and we’re doing anything we can to assist the facility,” Strasz said. “The facility has been good about getting back with us and working with us. Hopefully, soon we’ll get this under control.”

The care facility declined to comment.
