U-Pick farms across the state are expected to open to the public within the next few weeks. They were recently given the green light by the governor.
Cooler May temperatures will delay the opening of some U pick farms a few weeks.
That’s according to Michigan Agritourism.
They say customers can expect COVID-19 related precautions including being separated by every other row, one way traffic and line reducing strategies.
Janice Benson is the Executive Director of Michigan AgriTourism.
She argues picking your own food may now be the safer option.
“You are out in the open air, the open field, so there's lots of space. There’s lots of room in the fresh air,” she said.
Benson says revenue from the approximately 240 U-Pick farms in the state bring in as much as $37 million a year.
