The campus of Central Michigan University hostED a panel Tuesday discussing the expansion of renewable energy in the state.

The event featureD clean energy and industry experts talking about the increasing investment in renewable energy infrastructure across the state and country.

Tom Rohrer is the Director of CMU’s Great Lakes Institute for Sustainable Systems, and helped organize the event. He said the state and nation are transitioning over clean energy.

“It’s sort of like where we were in the 1890’s with horse and carriage. The internal combustion engine brought along the fact that we could do these things without horses and if it was the 1890’s I’d tell my students to get involved in that new automotive industry that’s developing. Right now it’s time to get involved in that new alternative energy, sustainable energy system that’s coming on board across the nation and world.”

Rohrer said future jobs will be in the clean energy industry.

“One of the reasons we have industry representatives here is to talk about how they are investing their profits from traditional fossil fuel systems into clean energy systems for several reasons. There is the moral and ethical reason for doing what’s best for the planet but there is also an economic benefit.”

The Clean Energy roundtable wais scheduled for 6:30pm October 24 in room 161 in Anspach hall on the campus of CMU.
