Starting July 15, Michiganders will begin receiving child tax credit checks from the federal government.

The expanded child tax credit is part of the American Rescue Plan passed by Congress to fight the economic effects of COVID-19.

Families with children and earning $150-thousand dollars or less qualify for the tax credit.

Michigan U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow says the monthly checks will help families.

“It’s about paying for food and clothing and child care, it’s about those shoes that seems like you have to keep changing every month because the feet grow so fast right.”

Stabenow says it’s important that people who do not make enough money to file federal taxes sign up for the child tax credit, because they are the ones who would benefit most.
