Mary Beth Orr, of the Grand Rapids Symphony, presents a FREE recital at the Heritage Center on the campus of Alma College. She is fusing the raw and vibrant storytelling of Folk music with the virtuosity and passion of Classical. The chosen medium of her classical solo horn and voice combined with the rich and soulful traditional melodies of her Appalachian heritage, connects these seemingly opposite music styles seamlessly. The result is a stunning and poignant musical journey of the human spirit. Works performed will be a celebration of both traditional Appalachian origin and the classical/contemporary canon, such as, Gustav Mahler, Kerry Turner, and even pop sensation Storm Large! Guest Performers include internationally renowned Lyric Tenor William Watson, CMU collaborative artist Mina Son on piano, and Midland Symphony Concert Master Takeshi Abo on violin.
