Thanks to a $1 billion gift, tuition will be free at a New York City medical school

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Michel Martin. What would you do if you could go to school for free? Starting in August, medical students at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York will find out. That's thanks to a $1 billion donation from a former professor, Ruth Gottesman. Professor Gottesman's late husband, a top Wall Street financier, left her a portfolio of stock with instructions to do whatever she wanted. And she wants the school to attract students from diverse backgrounds and allow them to graduate without debt. It's MORNING EDITION. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
