Straits cleanup continues after spill

Efforts continue on the removal of dielectric fluid from two lines that ruptured last week in the straits of Mackinac.

Officials with the Coast Guard are assisting with cleanup efforts. They say 65% of the fluid has been removed out of one line. They say 600 gallons of fluid escaped from the lines before they were shut down.

Officials say at this time there are no signs of pollution, but the Coast Guard will continue to monitor the region.

The leak itself remains under investigation, the Coast Guard announced last week they had launched an investigation into ‘vessel activity’ that may have caused the break.

Other pipeline operators in the straits have reported no breaks in their lines.
