U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow has introduced a bill for she says will protect land and water in the 2018 Farm Bill.
The Regional Conservation Partnership Project was originally authored by Stabenow as part of the 2014 Farm Bill.
The Democratic congresswoman said she’s hoping to have the conservation project continue and improve.
“The whole effort was to focus in a more strategic way, on broad projects to really make historic investments in conservation.”
The project helps partner farmers, non-profits and businesses to help conservation efforts throughout the state and country.
“We were lucky that eight of our projects in Michigan were funded, and now we're bringing in more than 100-million dollars in federal funding which has been matched by over 100-million in private resources. Projects go from Lake Erie to Saginaw Bay, to Traverse City, to the U.P. to the St. Joe River, it really is from one end of Michigan to the other.”
Stabenow said the 2018 Farm Bill will be voted on in September.
