Oscoda plans dedication ceremony for century old lighthouse

A northern Michigan community is planning a party for a 107 year old lighthouse.

The AuSable Pierhead Lighthouse was installed in 1911 at the mouth of the AuSable River. After nearly half a century, it was removed and refurbished.

The lighthouse now sits at its new home in the heart of downtown Oscoda, where the dedication ceremony will take place.

Jolene Senn is the treasurer of the Oscoda Downtown Development Authority.

“We went through the process of getting it refurbished and just recently had it installed along our main road on US-23 in Oscoda.”

Senn said the lighthouse went through a number of owners before making it to the DDA. It’s last owner sold it to the group to keep it in the community.

The Dedication ceremony for the lighthouse is scheduled for Wednesday (11/7) at 11:30am at the Huron Shores Artisan Hall in front in the lighthouse.
