The province of Ontario is going to start mailing out potassium iodide pills.
They will go to Canadians, who live close to DTE's nuclear reactor, Fermi 2.
That's in contrast to hundreds of thousands of Americans who live within a 10 mile radius of the reactor.
They get pharmacy vouchers for the pills. Potassium iodide can prevent thyroid cancer,if they're taken right after a nuclear accident.
Paul Gunter is with the group, Beyond Nuclear.
He says most people don't use the vouchers,
So DTE or the state should mail the pills.
It's only fair and reasonable to now have thatin place for people in Michigan and Ohio
DTE says it follows the protocol set by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the state, and counties.
