Bay County law enforcement have created a task force to stop a serial arsonist.

Ten vehicle arsons have been reported in Bay County since early April, the most recent on Wednesday. Each arson was reported in Portsmouth and Hampton Townships.

The task force is comprised of investigators from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Bay City Department of Public Safety, Hampton Township Police Department, and the Michigan State Police. They’re working to douse any future arsons.

Troy Cunningham is the Sheriff of Bay County. He said the task force will help the investigation.

“All the information that’s been coming in, putting that as a hub and a focal point-because, y’know, it gets really tough if one agency gets a tip and then another one does, and then we’re both doing the same thing in two different areas. So we’re just trying to streamline and focus that and see what kind of information we can get, and what methods and operations are staying similar and patterns and stuff like that.”

Cunningham said listeners with information about the arsons should call the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.
