New statewide partnership offers reduced tuition to municipal employees

Central Michigan University

A first of its kind program for Michigan’s public universities, if offering online courses with discounted tuition for municipal workers.

Central Michigan University has announced it will offer discounted tuition to city and township employees through the Michigan Municipal League.

Marcus Matthews with CMU said all but ten cities or townships are part of the league.

“How can we kinda ease that bridge so that our public servants and those working for these cities and townships can continue their education and build on their life and career?”

Lisa Donovan is with the Michigan Municipal League. She said the program will also extend to the family of league members.

“I think higher education is important to any profession but especially to municipal officials.”

Matthews said CMU has similar partnerships with the federal government and with the state of Michigan, but wanted to extend it to city and township employees.

Officials with the University say the program will also help bolster enrollment - which is expected to fall across the state in the coming year.
