A new Michigan State University president will be announced in June 2019, according to the Board of Trustees.
The school is currently led by interim president John Engler after former president Lou Anna Simon resigned in January amid the Larry Nassar scandal.
Engler will not participate in the search.
Between July and October, trustees will host sessions to hear from students, faculty, and other community members.
After help from a university search committee and a professional firm, the Trustees will conduct finalist interviews and make a decision.
At the press conference to announce the timeline, trustees ignored a student's question and asked for more from the press.
Another MSU student, Katie Paulot says she was angry about that - but it didn't surprise her.
"The narrative is still the same. They're going to preach inclusivity, they want us to be involved, they want to listen to it, but then they shut us down. That's what they've been doing for months."
The trustees say they're committed to listening to the MSU community and will not take their comments - or this decision - lightly.
MSU trustee Dianne Byrum says there aren't many specific details about how the search will work yet.
"We just have broad categories where the search committee will do interviews and then the trustees will do interviews but it's not defined out beyond that."
During the press conference to announce the timeline, MSU students and staff said the trustees haven't listened to them all year.
They worry the listening sessions won't be effective if this continues.
