Juke Joint: September 2, 2018

This week on "The Juke Joint" broadcast, Robert Barclay offered a tribute to Louisiana swamp blues singer & harp player, Lazy Lester, including his work with Lightnin' Slim & Lonesome Sundown. Lester loved vintage country music so Robert surrounded him with some of Lester's favorites: Merle Haggard, George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Ray Price and Bob Wills. Robert also played four more tunes by Aretha and noted the centennial of the birth of acoustic bluesman Archie Edwards.

Robert Barclay launched "The Juke Joint" broadcast on WCMU in April 1985. It has been a Sunday night fixture from 8:00-11:00 pm ever since. A devoted listener dubbed him the "Duke of Juke." He includes nearly a century's worth of blues history on his program including traditional and contemporary blues along with boogie woogie, soul music, rhythm & blues, zydeco and gospel music.
