Harbor Springs hosts second annual Festival of the Book

Harbor Springs Festival of the Book

The second annual festival of the book will be held this weekend in Harbor Springs.

The festival will host more than 50 authors and poets from around the world, with a variety of free and ticketed events around the city.

Amy Gillard is the Executive Director of the festival. “There are great authors that are coming this year. There is only one repeat author, everybody else is new to the festival, which most people are since we’ve only done it one time, it’s exciting to introduce all of these wonderful authors to Harbor Springs.”

Gillard said the event has been a dream of the community since about 2014.“We started thinking about this in 2014. A group of like minded individuals came together and said ‘we want to bring authors to come talk about books, to have people interact with people who write books, and just have great conversations about the written word.’”

Gillard said the festival will also focus on educational opportunities.

“Another really important element is the educational element that allows many of the young adult, middle grade, and picture book authors in the schools on Friday, the first day of the festival.”

The festival will run Friday through Sunday.
