A leader of the gun control movement in Michigan says her Number One goal is to make sure people who pose a threat can’t get their hands on a firearm.
There’s a variety of gun measures before the Legislature right now, and growing pressure for lawmakers to do something to address gun violence.
Emily Durbin of Moms Demand Action says research shows efforts are best spent on stopping people with a history of violent or threatening behavior from having guns.
"We’re more focused in terms of our strategic priorities on the persons who get access to guns, and limiting access to people with a dangerous history.”
Durbin says that means universal background checks and allowing authorities to confiscate weapons if someone is deemed a threat to themselves or others.
Durbin was on the Michigan Public Television show “Off The Record.”
