Detroit – and the world – said their farewells to the late Aretha Franklin Friday.

The service drew both high-profile figures, and fans who say Franklin’s death leaves a void in their own lives.

Cheers are greeting the music performances and other tributes at the funeral at Detroit’s Greater Grace Temple.

But Detroiter Patricia Martin says she’s attending because the Queen of Soul touched HER soul…with her music and at a birthday party for Franklin a few years ago.

“She was worried if everyone had their cornbread. Detroit has lost something…it’s been kind of dim for a few days. But now its bright and we’re celebrating her life. But I’m still sad.”

More than a thousand fans are being allowed to attend what had been an invitation only service.
