Governor Gretchen Whitmer has announced the expansion of a program to allow employees to work part-time…while remaining on unemployment.

Whitmer explained how the program works at a news conference this Friday.

“With workshare, an employee who has seen their hours and salary reduced is not only paid for the hours that they work…but they’re also eligible to receive both state unemployment benefits and the additional six-hundred dollar federal payment in federal pandemic employment compensation through the CARES Act.”

Whitmer says the plan gives businesses that can’t perform at 100-percent capacity needed flexibility – while maintaining relationships with their employees.
