Development projects to create jobs in Bay City, Flint

Flint and Bay City officials are hoping to get an economic boost over the next year through several new business developments projects.

Great Giant Supermarket in Flint will get a number of upgrades to the store itself, expanding both retail and deli space. The enhancement is expected to create 18 jobs.

Josh Hundt is the Vice President of Business Development Projects with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. He said the other development project - coming to Bay City - is an expansion at Conti Corporation.

“They primarily are in the manufacture, design, installation of electrical and mechanical systems, and they have committed to create 50 new jobs and invest $2.3 million in Bay City for a new pipe fitting manufacturing plant.”

Hundt said the jobs at the pipe fitting facility will include manufacturing and skilled trade jobs.

He said the jobs at Great Giant Supermarket  will involve construction for the upgrade itself, as well as full-time jobs both in retail and the deli.

Both projects are expected to be complete sometime next year.
