CMU breaks ground on new health studies facility

CMU

Central Michigan University broke ground Thursday on a 26 million dollar health studies building.

The building will expand the university’s health studies programs, which covers programs for physical therapists and athletic trainers, among others.

Tom Masterson is the Dean of the College of Health Professions. He said the health professions program has been limited by space.

“The lack of space is decreasing the amount of students we can really graduate in health professions. We all know that students from our college that graduate from our Health Professions programs stay in Michigan state and work in Michigan.”

CMU President George Ross said there is a growing need for health professions, and CMU has been limited by the size of it’s program.

“With this building, with the strength of the faculty and our staff and with the determination of our students CMU is gearing up to meet those needs and more around our state and across the country.”

Roughly 20 million dollars of the new building is being paid for by the state of Michigan.

The health studies building is expected to be complete by the fall of 2019.
