If April has seemed unusually cold in parts of Michigan … well, it was.
Data from the National Weather Service show several cities have recorded their coldest average temperatures for early April, perhaps ever.
Officials with the weather service say it could, so far, be the coldest April ever recorded - but data gets spotty before 1945 and it’s hard to make comparisons.
In Alpena the temperature has averaged 20 degrees - the only year that even came close to that was April of 1975 when temperatures averaged at about 32 degrees.
But meteorologists say next week is expected to warm up which will bring the month as a whole closer to average.
