By 2030, one in four residents will be over the age of 60.

18 organizations around the state have been awarded grants to help the aging population.

10-million dollars was split between the organizations.

The money comes from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund.

Kathryn Gardella is with the Health Fund.

She said some projects include dementia-training for caregivers, hospital- to- home transition improvement and new approaches to mobility.

“One of our goals is to make health more accessible to children and adults, that accessibility component is definitely a big part. Children and aging adults that is definitely our most vulnerable target audiences.”

Organizations that received funding include, Genesee Health System, Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Michigan and Otsego County Commission on Aging.

“Our goal isn't to fund something that will only last through the funding period, our goal to create systemic changes that will continuously help that community or help those local partners.”
